Get your car ready for the winter

Winter's almost here, I spent 2 hours yesterday preparing the cars.
Check your anti-freeze, you can get a small tester from Halfords they're only £5, it tells you what concentration it is, try and keep it at 40%,
If it's below that, drain some off, then add undiluted anti-freeze. If your anti-freeze has'nt been flushed and changed in the last 5 years, it's time you did it, ethylene-glycol only has a life span of 5 years.

Change your wiper blades, they should be changed every 2 years anyway.

Check the secureness of your battery terminals, also, unless it's a sealed-for-life type, top up the cells with distilled water.

Check the treads on your tyres, in snow and ice you'll need all the grip you can get.

Use a good screen wash, you can get it with an additive that helps stop your windscreen freezing.

Finally, carry a spade or shovel in your boot, you never know when the white flurry stuff will bog you down.

I won't be bothering with that pick and shovel coz I haven't seen any white stuff down our neck of the woods for many years, well not for more than half an hour first thing in the morning! Good advice there, especially for us women who only know how to put the petrol in it!

Depends how new it is, I'd still carry a shovel in the boot, and put a good windscreen washer fluid in.

Other thing I carry in winter is a bag of salt- if your wheels are skidding /stuck on a patch of ice , throw a handful of salt next to the tyres- soon melts it
