Suspected "pit-Bull type"

Should people report a suspected "Pit-bull type" dog?

A friend of mine told me she has seen a dog like this around where she lives and although the dog has not done anything wrong it has caused her to worry as it is very large and is always being walked by groups of youths.

I realise this is a classic stereotype and the dog (and indeed the youths!) could be very friendly?...But should people be suspicious or worried?...I'm interested to know peoples views on this

Thanks.

It wouldn't even cross my mind to report someone who has done nothing wrong.

Have you seen the film "Minority report" ? Where they look into the future and arrest people for crimes they are about to do? I get a bit of the same feeling.

Yes, I also judge some people in my neighbourhood in my own head. But I wouldn't report them for "looking suspicious", I just don't let my dog greet their dog and generally stay at a distance.

The term 'pit bull type' covers a multitude of cross breeds. Reporting an innocent dog can lead to confiscation and death for the dog .

I wouldn't report anyone if they haven't done anything wrong either.

If this dog and its owner are innocent, it could lose it's life for looking nothing more like a certain type.

It is a ridiculous law that does not work. Deed not breed and all that.

no.

It makes my blood boil when people see someone under the age of 25 in a tracksuit with a bull breed and jump to all sorts of conclusions. Its a young person and their dog unless otherwise proven. End of.

Unless they actually done something to cause your friend concern I wouldn't.
That could be sentencing an innocent dog to death.
My boyfriend used to walk my dog kaya (a staffy cross) with his friends. (But I've asked him not to for this exact reason) we are young. Sometimes him and his friends wear tracksuits.
My dog is loving, trained and socialised. My boyfriend and his friends would rush to help somebody before they dreamt of causing any harm.
If somebody reported our dog it would rip both our hearts out

I'd call it cruel if your friend reported a dog purely on its looks, it could lead to the dog being took away and PTS.

I wouldn't report them because of the look of the dog alone.

Breed legislation as it stands in most countries is a bad joke, and as long as the dog is well behaved and properly trained the 'type' of the dog shouldn't be a concern.

No I wouldn't either for the reason's given above.

My eldest will walk Tyler some days, has his hoodie on,earphones in and your typical staffy owner chav look, yet this couldn't be further from the truth.
