4 August, Gundog training day for novices, Suffolk

Gundog Training Day for Novice Handlers in Suffolk on 4 August

There are still a limited number of places available for the special Gundog Training Day for Novice Handlers, organised by the Kennel Club, in Walberswick, Suffolk on Saturday 4th August.

The training day will be held at Eastwood Lodge Farm, Walberswick and is perfect for anyone with a Kennel Club-registered Retriever or Spaniel and an interest in finding out about gundog work, as well as learning basic training skills.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “The training day in Walberswick is a great opportunity to let your dog put his natural instincts to great use. Gundogs love nothing more than working alongside their owners and these training days will help anyone with an interest in starting out in working dog activities to hone their techniques and get the most out of their dog.

“The training day is suitable for dog owners and handlers of any age, so why not come along with your child or younger sibling and see which age group manages the most with their dog on the day?”

Training for gundog work is a fun way to spend time with your dog and to teach him key skills that will help him enjoy an exciting ‘career’ doing what he loves best. The Kennel Club has secured tuition from some of the most experienced, well known Retriever and Spaniel trainers for the events this year, and attendees can expect a fun and challenging experience.

Kira Leith-Ross and Adrian Robinson, of Skelton, Cleveland, attended one of last year’s training days with two Labrador puppies. Kira said: “We went along with a six month old puppy and an eight month old puppy and all four of us loved it. I discovered that my dog was much smarter, and that I was less useless, than I had originally thought!

“It was a great feeling of achievement and progress was evident throughout the day, and both dogs were expecting more of me afterwards.”

Applicants are asked to give a little bit of background information on any basic experience with gundog work they may already have, so the trainers can adjust the day’s activities accordingly, providing a tailor made schedule.
