Back from the vets.

He wouldn't let her examine his tummy but she thinks gums and eyes look bright so a sign that he is well hydrated (he perked up and drank loads on the way there, typical Woody), but is worried about his overall behaviour.

Need to keep a close eye on him until tomorrow morning. If he's not perked up by then or if he's sick again need to get him in and sedate/x-ray etc as might be a foreign body in his tummy. It's too hard to tell at this stage anyway as the anti sick jab (what is it called!!) is stopping him form being sick.

Tonight will be the decider as the anti sick jab will wear off, if he's sick again we need to take him in in the morning and leave him there.

I'm exhausted!

I've said I'd rather not. He finds it very stressful at the vets, especially in confinement and would rather have him home with me. I know the signs and he's not that bad, as per above otherwise I'm sure they would have insisted I left him there, right?

That is a bit positive Em, tell Woody from me, to perk up and stop stressing his two legged mum out
Hopefully it is just a bad bug and he will pick up soon, I am sure if he goes down hill you will be back at the vets ASAP, what a worrying time xxxx

Hoping Woody gets over this quickly and you don't have to go back to the vets, poor little guy having a reaction to the jab too!

This doesn't sound disimilar to what Zena had one night last week, and she wouldn't drink any water either for 24 hours She was very ill, but luckily she managed to vomit but only twice, and I think that did her the world of good quite honestly. She wasn't right the next day either, she just wanted to be quiet and lay in her bed, so I was still worried, just like you are, but I didn't have the added effect of that jab like Woody has.

Re: those pale gums. I saw a heart specialist once who explained to me, that the reason a dog's gums go white when they're vomiting violently, is the fact that the blood pressure plummets, causing them to pass out sometimes, and sometimes even worse! I had this one morninng out on a walk and Zena did actually pass out on me the eyeballs disappeared behind her eyes, it was very frightening, hence the visit to the heart specialist. I just wanted you to be aware about those pale gums and the reasons, so now that they're normal things should be ok. I really think we ought to find out what to do IF our dogs pass out with any serious vomiting bouts though, because quite honestly, when it happened to me I didn't have a clue, but thankfully, because we walked her by holding a fleece under her belly, we must have "jolted" it back to life, as she suddenly seemed to come round again thank God!

Ever since that day, I really get frightened when she starts being sick as you can imagine!

I do hope Woody sleeps it off today and you don't have to take another traumatic trip to the vets. Good luck with him.

Thanks again everyone. It really helps to cope with this when you have support and well wishes like this!

He's been sick again. Scared the life out of me as was a real effort for him. A big pile of sick too (and all over my duvet!) I guess the sick jab has worn off ;o( I've only just been able to clear it up too as he was guarding it ;o(

Called the vets to update. As he won't let them examine his belly the next step is sedate and x-ray so they would rather leave that until absolutely necc' (as would I!!) I think they feel fairly certain it's a bug or something he's eaten.

He's just dozing in his bed now and we've had a cuddle (I came away covered in drool!)
