I always take them for a walk together first before I bring the new dog into the house .

Haha I know it sounds a bit silly asking questions so far in advance... but I knew I wanted a second dog once I had moved out when it was 3-5 years away... now i's about 18 months.... this is exciting for me

I wish more people would plan before getting a dog, you are doing the right thing. Introducing one to your other dogs depends on a lot of things including your personality and how you cope with things. You have a lot of ideas now to work with, you can take a bit from here, a bit from there, and a bit from somewhere else, it has to suit you and your dogs.

Thanks

These threads are always here so I can always go back and re-read

I just like getting all the info I can so it gives me a mix of ideas for what I feel would work best, plus then giving me extra ideas if the first plan doesn't work

I have been through this process a few times .
The Rescues I've adopted from ask you to bring your resident dog/s along to meet the new dog before you take her/him home. So they meet and then travel in the car, when I get home we have a little walk in the street and then into the garden and then indoors.
I make sure theres nothing like chews or prized toys lying around and dont leave them alone together . I have them in my room at night and new dog in a crate if they are used to being crated.

I suppose it depends on the individual dogs . I know one dog that kicked off everytime it saw a dog in the street but if a dog came into his home he was fine !
