Living with a cat!

Hi!

Am a 20 week old staffie and new to all of this Dogsey thing! Have been living with my new mum and dad for a month now. I have a lovely little boy to play with and a strange hissing creature. Any tips for living with a cat who doesn't seem to want to play with me? Off for a snooze now.

Our pup is 17 weeks old and came home with us at 8 weeks.
We have three cream Burmese cats, one of 16 and two of 9.

It takes time for things to settle, a lot of time. Plus, I think the fact that the cats have each other, so to speak, it means that they stick together in their resentment of the dog more than if there was just one solo cat.

Kibo knows not to chase the cats, and he's had a few bops on the noise to remind him too!

We'd made quite a bit of headway before we went on holiday for a fortnight and relations, while no longer strained, were cordial. When we went away, Kibo was with friends and the cats stayed at home with a cat sitter . When we came home the cats were all over us until we brought Kibo home and within 5 minutes my 9 year old boy cat had launched a full scale attack on the pup

No damage done, just a weeny scratch behind his ear

One thing I do most days is when the cats are cuddled up on the spare bed together I take Kibo up there and we all sit on the bed together for about 10 minutes, Kibo on one side of me and the cats on the other. I talk to them all very quietly while gently stroking them. The dog is very submissive and tends to start off by lowering his head and not looking at them at all.

in the evenings the cats are starting to tolerate being in the same room as him, through their own choice, but only when he's sleepy and not running around like a nutter!

Anyways, after all that rambling, I guess I'm saying that time and patience is the key. I'm not sure that mine are ever going to be the best of friends and I long for the day when I might see them lying at least on the same sofa together, but only time will tell.

Good luck Doris
