There arent many dogs that would eat Rats, so I wouldnt worry about that. A stable yard, straw/hay store is always a good place, but be aware Rats bite hard, mind you Terriers usually only get bitten once learning!!

I know people that use whippets for ratting.

I know my lot would not catch them. Near to us an old michelin factory was demolished a few years ago. It must have been infested with rats. Of course the rats made for the houses, garages and sheds of the nearby houses. One day I saw one in our garden so sent 5 whippets out to dispatch it.

Silly idea that was the whippets took one look at the rat and came running back indoors!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

My Friend had a rough haired JRT and owns stables and horses, and they have rats, so her OH took Mitch down one evening and he caught one got bitten mind but only the once as Dawn said. He is now a lovely ratter for them and keeps the yards and hay stores clear.
He had no previous experience it was instinct for him. He doesn't eat them either he takes them to Julie or Alan as if to say look what iv'e caught for you Alan doesn't mind Julie tells him to take them to Alan.
