I highly doubt any of my friends-knowing I am the dog lover I am-would ask me to do such a thing. BUT, in the instance that they did-I would rather have their ghost haunt me for the rest of eternity than put the dog down! I couldn't do it-not to a completely healthy dog.

Me too!

I'd keep the dog myself. Many people don't know what they are saying in their last few weeks/months of life, even if they are perfectly healthy 'til the day they die they get 'crazy' at the thought of knowing they are on death's doorstep and if she cared that much for the dog she'd let me take it on anyway, unless of course the dog were ill or infirm. I wouldn't feel in the least bit guilty and if we did meet again i'd have it out with her then about how selfish she had been.

I personally know someone who has requested this when they die !

They are no longer a friend, and No I wouldn't put a healthy dog down for their selfish reasons. If the dog i question had a very bad temperament and the owner knew it would probably be destroyed as it couldn't be rehomed, then I guess that's different. Also if a dog was in bad health and elderly too and wouldn't settle or recover if rehomed, but I wouldnt do it to a healthy, rehomable dog.

If she loved her dog that much when alive, then I doubt this would be requested of her...........but like the others have said NO I wouldn't put a healthy dog down.

I'd be really interested in hearing your reasons for this, if you're willing to share.

no way........... thats completely tragic,.,.
you cant end a pets life just because your not here...
keep the dog alive... definitely, thats completely selfish to me, to ask for a pet to be killed just because they are no longer alive, (just my opinion)
