Awful. However there have been many warnings in recent times about dog treats (rawhide etc) that is 'made in China'.

I don't give anything like that to my dog any more anyway as she almost choked on a bit of rawhide that I managed to pull out of her throat a year or so ago.

Many thanks for the link. I stopped giving Loki treats a few years ago, like that!

Similarly, I found that pigs ears could also cause horrendous problems and we nearly lost our last dog prematurely because of one swelling in her stomach.

Thanks for the link .. its always to spread the word amongst dog owners.

Like Nippy and Tang, I too stopped giving my dogs any sort of 'chews' after having to extract a long shard of rawhide that had got stuck in one of my dogs throats.

Popular with humans as a chew in the US jerky is salty, cured, marinated dried out meat (usually beef). I wouldn't like to say what the actual content of the 'pet ones' are.

*edit to say - here you go Nippy - bit of info and a piccie here

Some ten years ago when I lived in South Africa over 200 dogs died from renal failure and many more suffered from kidney problems. The State Vet investigated the cause of the problem and it was traced to tinned dog food imported from China which had had melamine powder (used in the manufacture of kitchen worktop) added to bulk the food out.

From that day onwards I swore I'd never buy any kind of dog or cat food manufactured in China!

Some five years later, also in China, there was the scandal of melamine being added to baby formula!
