I'm a student so I'm quite enjoying the holidays in that respect Lots of lovely long walks and loads of time to devote to training and playing games!

However, I do live next to a park and it's been so busy since the holidays has started which is really starting to get to me now! During the day we have little kids from the park teasing Molly through the fence. Then at night we have teens drinking in the park and knocking on our front door & running off so waking Molly up and making her bark!

My dogs love it - all those kids to play with and make a fuss of 'em. I do make sure they're not overcrowded though and don't adversely bother the dogs.

From a more personal point of view (not dog related) the summer holidays mean that Oscar now has just over a month of not being racially, verbally or physically abused by the nasty little wretch of a bully who has tormented him since September 2008.

It hasn't affected us much yet, we tend to go to fairly quiet spots anyway as they're the most local. It does mean there are more fairs at the bigger parks, so perhaps good for his socialisation anyway.
What I don't like (not related to dogs) is the kids literally screaming 2 gardens down, which wake you up whether you have the windows open or closed.
Some of you have had terrible times though, I think I'd be calling the police with some of the things they've done!

I seem to have got the children in the road fairly well trained after nearly 2 years here That sounds terrible doesn't it?

Ok, i live in a cul-de-sac that is populated mainly by families with youngish children. When i first moved in the kid used to scream and brandish whatever they were playing with at the dogs to keep them away - ok, yes, they were scared, none of them or their families had dogs (save for one girl whose grandfather's dog had bitten her). A bit of patience, explanation and encouragement and now all the kids want to fuss the dogs every time they come out the house - which the dogs love as well.

School holidays make very little difference - I walk before anyone else in the street is up in the morning and then in the evening if it's nice the kids are always out playing in the road when i get in from work.

I have more problems with gangs of older teenage girls on my evening walk who hurl abuse at me though not the dogs.

Here we go again with the child bashing....

I feel really sorry for all of you who live near such horrendous children but please can you try not to tar all kids with the same brush. Please could at least occasionally qualify some of your statements with some of the kids round here. I know this is a dog-lovers forum so does that make it ok to be a child-hater? Most of you are anti BSL but you seem quite happy to indiscriminately hate all kids.

This thread does not make comfortable reading, it is dripping venom and hatred. Remember some dogs behave badly but that doesn't make you hate all dogs. I have to say that the anti-child prejudiced of some members of this forum has really lowered my opinion of some who I had previously admired.

For me it does make life harder because my children (who some of you would apparently wish to destroy on sight ) are home from school so my walks are not as peaceful. Pepper loves it when the kids are out with us so she gets very excited and silly. We mainly walk in a nature reserve in our nearest park and she has a great time running between the kids and me. She likes to keep tabs on all her pack. But I do have to be more vigilant as she is quite likely to assume that anyone sitting on the grass must want a kiss!

J.
