I favor tracking lines which are made from thin rope.
The usual ribbon type lines get knotted very easily and when damp are awkward.
Something like this is ideal for me...

I've got a horse's lunge line you can have from me if you want? I don't use it anymore, it's in perfect working order.

Hiya Kruse with a K!
It is thin rope and as far as I can tell it's no worse than any other long line/lead.

Then sold! Want is asap (by post) or want me to give it to you next walk I see you? Shame you didn't post this last week

ETA: Lemme just double check at home we still have it, I'm 99.9% sure, but I always have the doubt incase I sold it already, but I'm pretty sure I haven't, just having a 26yr old senior moment!

I use lunge lines.

I have a fair few (long time horse owner) but best one I have found is a round cotton rope one, we have a flat webbing one but they are very lightweight and get caught in the wind and knotted easily.
