PLEASE HELP AND CROSSPOST
THE BAN HAS PASSED

THIS IS AN URGENT PLEA TO RESCUES AND PEOPLE IN THE
STATES AND OTHER
PROVINCES PLEASE CROSS POST RESONSIBLY

If you have room in your home please please please take in one
of the
Ontario pit bulls. The will DIE or be sent to research labs
otherwise.

Most of us here our full, and really theres no other options for
these dogs.

The dogs we have pull are all evaluated, UTD on shots and we
will
get them altered.

Theres 8 wk old pups ranging up to seniors that shouldnt have
to die
becasue they are pit bulls.

I have been urging people to donate to BAnned AID but please
consider the rescue people too we are up to our eyeballs with
dogs
that need help and we are running short on funds - no one
wants to
help the pit bulls- except the pit bull people.

SO please if you can help let us know.
And join our Ontario Bullies in Need to sponsor a dog or perhaps
look
at one that you might be able to take in .

Subject:
Bill 132, Proposed Amendments to the Dog Owners' Liability Act

Thank you for your e-mail message regarding the Ontario government's
proposed amendments to the Dog Owners' Liability Act.

The McGuinty government has taken another step to make our communities safer
for all Ontarians by introducing legislation on October 26, 2004 that, if
passed, would ban pit bulls, place restrictions on existing pit bulls and
toughen penalties for the owners of any dog that poses a danger to the
public. A copy of this bill can be found at
www.attorneygeneral.jus.gov.on.ca

If passed, the legislation will allow owners to keep their existing pit
bulls. However, owners would be required to comply with new requirements
such as leashing and muzzling their pit bulls and having their dogs spayed
or neutered. Municipalities would be able to use their existing animal
control powers to add further restrictions, specific to the needs of each
community.

Additionally, if passed, the legislation would toughen penalties for the
owners of any dog that poses a danger to the public, by doubling fines up to
a maximum of $10,000, and allow for jail sentences of up to six months for
individuals who own dangerous dogs that bite, attack, or pose a threat to
public safety. The legislation would also allow fines up to a maximum of
$60,000 for corporations who own such dogs. As well, it would allow the
courts to order that the dog owner pay restitution to the victim.

Currently, the proposed legislation is not law, rather it is in the hands of
MPPs. It has been considered by the Standing Committee on the Legislative
Assembly which held four days of public hearings in Toronto, Barrie, and
Brantford.

I hope that this information is of some assistance to you. If you wish to
follow the progression of Bill 132 in the Legislative Assembly, please note
that you can continue to check the Bill's status at:

and if you dont have anything to say regarding a thread, why say it in the thread. pm me with your opinons, at least i can delete them!

i dont particulary 'care' for any breed, but i love dogs. i am interested to find out more about how a dog can be down right banned from a country. it worrys me that the media can have such a powerful force upon the public, if its happened to these dogs, then whats next!?

We should all be indignant about attacks on any specific breed, hope not, but it could be your breed next.

exactly Jess, it could and can happen to ANY breed, it does not mean that the BREED should be banned or killed off or whatever small minded idiots decide is 'for the best' its the owners that need sorting out, the majority of the dogs could be re trained.
Fighting can NEVER be blamed on the dogs ONLY the OWNERS !!

and it was something that i think many of the other bull breed owners would have said to you to, in the thread, and why would i hide my opinion of what you said in a PM, i am NOT ashamed of supporting ALL breeds whatever evil humans have decided to use them for, that is what makes a TRUE dog lover, not someone who can pick and choose because of the way they look, or the way they are portrayed in the media, EVERY dog deserves a chance, its the humans that dont !

i find it funny that you get on to me, because of what i said in previous posts. i didnt understand why people would want this type of dog. but i learned (the hard way) and changed my mind.
but youll never let me live it down.

i asked on this thread why is it such a 'big deal'? i didnt write that properly. i didnt mean a big deal to owners, that they should shut up about it, i meant instead why have the media managed to make it into such a big deal, and ended up getting a breed banned. thats a big thing to happen, and then people, like me, think wow that a bad breed, thank gawd its off the streets. now i know, its not the breed thats at fault, but a handful of baddies. but how on earth did a few bad incidences make a whole breed get the blame. its sound ludicrous, and worrying that it could happen to others. yes it does affect me. people tell me jaz looks like a pit bull. i just laugh, cos he is a soft lump. but what if cross breeds that happen to look like pitbulls get the trouble next?
i am not a wind up. i am an anxious dog lover.
