Sore Arm Pits

We bought Dingo one of those walking harnesses that have the flashing LED's on for walking at night and also the reflective strips. After just one days worth of walks on it, his arm pits are starting to show chaffed bits. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong or how to correct the problem because obviously we don't want him to feel pain during what he enjoys the most.

I would suggest taking some pics and sending them to Patch as she is very good at harness assessment/ recommendations.

Hi Fliggle,

I am not absolutely sure, but could the harness be a little tight, and be rubbing ? or the opposite and moving whilst walking...

All fleece so more comfy for the dog.

We had this and put the padded straps from another harness on to the one we now use as it rubbed. Non padded harness do tend to rub.

I took on a dog who had been walked on a padded harness which had rubbed him raw - even with extra padding. He pulled into it, and the excitement of the walk masked the pain. If the rubbing persists, why not try another sort of collar or headcollar? You can get ordinary flashing / reflective collars as well.

I think it's time to re-visit the pet shop and study what they've got. Dingo doesn't help when it comes to choosing something because he wiggles so much.

I've had the exact same thing too, it rubbed the fur off my dogs 'pits'. He used to pull into it too (was my German Shepherd Jasper )

We swopped him onto a Gentle Leader headcollar which was much better and let his pits get hairy again lol
