Sharpei 12-1/2 yrs pacing and panting all night

Does anyone have any suggestions. I have a 12-1/2 year old sharpei who 3 weeks ago started pacing and panting all night. He has had a check up complete with blood work. I am told he is in excellent heath for an older dog.
He has been prescribed Amitriptyline HCI 50mg twice a day. So far no change. I am not getting any sleep and it is totally wearing me down. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for your help

Amitriptyline is an old anti-depressant, I know in humans it can take up to four weeks to kick in, maybe it was the sedative effect the vet thought would help your dog. I would be going back and getting a second opinion if you aren't happy. Did the vet explain what result they expected from using Amitriptyline??

I think I would be back at the vets getting your boy checked further.

Good luck x

It could be senile dementia - it`s what a friend`s dog did. He just walked round and round all night, getting more and more stressed, crying. There is medication that can help - have a talk to your vet.
