Can I just add a word of warning for anyone thinking of using the collar high on the neck, especially if it`s a choke - the larynx is situated there and can easily be crushed. Yes I know some of the show people use a very high slip lead but that is above the larynx - almost under the chin.
The reason the high choke works is that it is painful for the dog.

thank you maxine, and im just as you descibed...the collar? hummm...used properly still might have ite dis.most think there cruel.i think there dangerious. a 120lbs dog in the red zone might need one if you have not laid the ground work or dont have controll.i know others who say they need them just in case of an emergance, the nicest dog at 120 or more can fight at the drop of a hat .now matter how much you think you have controll, iiv been there ....phil

Hi, I am a great fan of the dog whisperer and watch every program. It has certainly been useful in helping one of my dogs who was developing an obsession problem. Some of the dogs he has helped "red zone dogs" were candidates for euthanasia. People who criticize should watch his program and see the way his methods help dogs to be balanced. A lot of the problems are caused by humans fulfilling their own needs rather than the needs of the dog.

I have watched it a lot. Still don't agree with his methods, nor does my 8 year old son, who thinks that his sidekicking a dog is cruel. Out of the mouthes of babes.
