Hello Tam T

Just wish I could reply with more researched facts but unfortunately they seem a little thin in the ground.

cbt getting rid of a dog is possibly in my eyes worse than getting a dog and getting rid of it when u no longer want it. Infact, ur getting the dog knowing that u will be 'disposing' of it when it can no longer breed.

I dont know u or ur dogs true, and i dont remember saying u treated ur dogs badly. So what are ur breeding bitches to u then? u cant see them as pets if u want to get rid of them when they r too old. just 'breeding stock'.
How is sending ur dogs to a retirement home the best thing for them? surely the best thing for them would be to keep them in the safe home they have had all their lives? Just because u dont leave them on the street doesnt mean its right.

so let me get this straight, u breed to 'better the breed' but not to keep the dogs u buy. The fact that u send them to nice loving homes has nothin to do with it, u shudnt be doing it in the first place. Where is ur bond with this dog u chuck away for a younger model so to speak?

jenny I refuse to get drawn into your bitter little "debate"
you dont like what I choose to do with my dogs, thats your problem not mine, quite frankly I cant understand anyone who is so narrow minded they think that their way of doing things is the only way, but there you go

I dont think we will ever see eye to eye on this one, so whats the point of thrashing it out?
Your never likely to by a puppy from me, or offer a home to a retired brood bitch from me so what you think of me or my dogs is not important to me.

All that matters to me is the fact that my dogs are happy and well cared for when they are in my care and if I choose to rehome them, the letters, photos, updates, cards and emails I get from new owners, (and from new owners of pups I have bred) tells me I must be doing something right!
Dogs are not always sentimental the way some humans are,
If you rehome a dog to a nice family, of course it will take a little while for the dog to settle down and adjust to a new routine, but ultimately, dogs are versatile and adaptable creatures, and because my dogs are all well socialised, trained and friendly with people and other dogs, I rarely have any problems finding them new homes if I decide to.

If you think thats irresponsible then i feel very sorry for you indeed becauss theres far more irresponsible people out there doing much worse, you must have a very jaded view of dog breeders indeed.

well its not only unfair on the dog, but what about ur bond with the dog? no normal person would be able to give up their dog after so many years without a very worthy cause! How many dogs do u want to breed from to warrant getting rid of the first one?

i cant believe no one see's a problem with this!

"u shudnt be doing it in the first place. "

shouldnt be doing what?

rehoming my dogs, if and when I choose to, in my own way without burdening rescue with the task?

Breeding?

What?

Who are you? The Sole expert and rule maker of dog ownership?

I think you need to get a grip!

theres all sorts of people out there in all walks of life, some people work their dogs, some keep them in kennels, some breed, some dont, some people have one dog, some have loads, if you are going to be so opposed to anyone who doesnt fit into your little plastic jelly mould of what a dog owner should be like, then you are going to find life rather tedious because everyone has different takes on what is "right" and "wrong" when it comes to their animals.

ah welllll.................that explains it!!!

Why is it "unfair"?

So if I have a bitch which has been kept in kennels all her life and she reaches the age of 6 and i decide to rehome her to a nice family who want to keep her indoors and give her loads of cuddles and walks, and undivided attention for the rest of her natural life,....................yes i can REALLY see how that is "unfair" on her

Do you think maybe I should stop being so cruel and uncaring and unfair and just take her to the vets instead and have her PTS, or maybe I should dump her at the nearest animal rescue centre

thankyou jenny for pointing out the errors of my ways, what an unkind and horrible person I must be

This is becoming a debate about breeders now rather than white boxers, Jenny if you want to critisize my personal choices any further maybe you should start a new thread

I don't see a problem with anyone wanting to rehome a brood bitch.

It's upto that individual breeder surely?

well if u put it that way, then its ok for people to dump their dogs, abuse them or kill them cos its up to the owner wot they do with their dogs!

no more complaining about puppy farmers! its up to them how many dogs they punch out every year! no more complaining about people euthanising puppies without problems or dumping litters of puppies in locked sheds! its up to them wot they do!!

jeez!

cbt, for one i hope u dont keep ur dogs outside. And the point is, u shudnt be getting rid of the dog in the first place! u shudnt even buy the dog if u already plan to get rid of it when it doesnt suit u anymore!

so u think its right that u buy the dog so u can sell the puppies for money and then get rid of it? u talk about them like they are things and not animals. whats wrong with u

"cbt, for one i hope u dont keep ur dogs outside"

why? YET again?????
:smt017 :smt017

whats wrong with YOU?????

i keep my dogs in heated kennels with huge 10ft runs and each dog has its own bed and they are the happiest healthiest dogs you could ever meet, the invitation is there to come and meet tham, anytime you like Jenny, dogs dont have to be kept indoors to be happy.

if you think keeping dogs outside is cruel too
you would have a pretty hard time if you ever found yourself in the company of a few farmers or gamekeepers
they would think YOU are the one whos mad!

I think this is the craziest thing Ive heard in a while, me and my OH are trying not to roll about on the floor here!
his father bred dogs for many years (border collies) on a farm, and his dogs lived into their teens and twenties quite often. They would work sheep all day long on the hills. yes...............they really had a bad life and were unhappy and cruelly treated..........all because they were working dogs and they were kept outside

please dont insult my intelligence any further
