i dont see a problem with a socialisation exercise as long as its structured responsibly and the pup is happy and confident enough.
so we dont know into will be "forced" into anything
of course the distance is too long

ad we dont know that the organisers will approve the OP taking her pup along due to the various issues anyway.

No I dont think its appropriate in all fairness. Like I say I was out at a carboot sale with Sasi yesterday & even though she has had alot of socialisation the last few weeks, even when she was being carried she seemed quite uneasy with everything going on around her. Hence us going back to the car & trying to reassure her while seeing & hearing stuff from in the car.
To be fair the OP did say she could bail out if needed, my concern is once your there in the middle of it, it would be difficult to call it a day & not finish..
Hence I just wouldnt go fullstop .

Great guys, have you missed anything out?

If you want to report me to the RSPCA, please PM me and I will send you my address.

1. When I said we went out for an hour, I meant this:
> walking to the park - 10 mins. Praise for walking well on the lead.

> Offlead sniffing at the park - 10 minutes,

> Clicker training while in the park - 10/15 minutes.

> Walk home - 15/20 minutes because I have to 'stand like a tree' whenever she pulls, which is a lot on the way home sadly.

Total is roughly an hour.

2. When I said, can she do 5K, I was wondering how much she could do. I would have happily carried her or left. I know the area well, its not hard to leave. Its just walking around a large park.

3. Yes I do clicker train her, shes very clever and loves it.

4. I do not use exercise to 'tire her out' but as stimulation and socialisation.

5. I would not 'drag' my dog into a huge crowd if she was worried. I thought it was going to be a perfect oppertuity to meet strangers, see children and see other dogs on lead.

6. The dog and I will not be walking the event, but we will be going, to have a look. Our dog walker is going to be there.

So please, if you want to report me, or try and attack me from any other angle, please, carry on. You cannot make me feel like a bigger pile of **** than you already have.

Jeez, I must be the worst dog owner in the whole fricking world.

Thankfully, I know the area, and can bail out if needed.

How will I know when shes 'had enough'?

Thanks for the advice!

In fairness you did ask if 5k was too much for your pup and you have been given some good advice.
I think it is a bit unfair to now get so defensive and angry with the replies.
In fairness to Jinty and to guard her in later life it might be a good idea to reconsider how far she walks. You can still enjoy your "bark in the park" with her tucked under your arm
Hope you have fun.

I NEVER pre judge anyone, YOU asked a question and people gave the advice, the parts in bold are completely unneccessary IMO and TBH perfectly honest if you don't want to get advice refrain from posting, what you do with your owner puppy is entirely upto you if you need to get so defensive then maybe its wise not to ask as I quite frankly thought people were readily thoughtful and you were the one that put.....Do you think a pup can do 5K....which implied you were asking if it could walk that

I think it's more about what you missed out.
You asked us if a pup can do 5k - we said no. You didn't ask if a pup could do part of 5k and how much.
You said your pup gets an hour of walking, we said an hour is too much but off-lead exercise isn't quite as bad as on-lead.
We're not psychic, we can only go on what we're told

You have not been "attacked". I'm afraid if you give some unnecessary attitude to what is perfectly legitimate and sensible advice, expect to be met with some less tolerant replies!

Being out for an hour in the park is still far too much for a 13 week old puppy, no matter how you break it down or sugar coat it. If you chose to ignore the advice about limiting a developing puppies exercise at the most crucial stage of its life, that is your choice. Lets just hope your dog doesn't suffer for the choices you made later one.

I am very disappointed quite honestly, you were more than eager for our advice when you were looking for a puppy and wanting info on diet and equipment and toys, but it appears that as soon as we have suggested that some of your ideas may be less than advisable you have become very defensive.

It is understandable and human nature, however if you do not want people's opinions, do not ask for them.

If you ask for them then as we are all different you will get a mixture; some of which you will like others which you will not.

That is the lottery of a forum.

If you ask for an opinion, be VERY sure you want to hear it; alternatively preface your query with "only those who agree with me respond".
