Does anyone else find it ironic that I, and now my very well qualified and experienced behaviourist friend, is being judged on a thread about know it alls?!

Until you have both met my dogs, done a full behavioural assessment on both of them and shown me that your qualifications in animal behaviour and animal counselling are at least equal to my friend......I will consider you one of those know it alls and find your attitude extremely patronising.

I met someone a bit like this today, someone came round to check the boiler and Diz LOVES new people coming in and can be a bit OTT sniffing and licking etc. so I told this person to ignore her whilst I had her on a houseline distracting her and calming her.

I got a 10 minute lecture about how she wasn't socialised properly (I know I didn't have her as a pup) and needed a 'firm' hand (even a raised voice can frighten her, so erm... no).
I was actually really hurt, I thought she did OK,focused on me, chomped on a Kong and only jumped up once. *sigh*

Sometimes it feels like I have to tell everyone Diz's and my life story to try and get them to understand why we act the way we do

Well reading this forum and all the threads started by people who say their walks have been ruined by running into aggressive dogs with ignorant foul mouthed owners - I think it's a very small inconvenience to meet someone who just wants to 'show off their knowledge' of your dog's breed!

Such a shame, especially when it's someone who doesn't know you or your dog judging you...and in your own home!

You are missing the point completly and I really don't care what you think. I repeat it is your call.

So stating that you really don't care what I think of you, doubting the advice given by a well qualified behaviourist who has actually met and assessed the dogs, and making a judgement on dogs you have not met purely because of your view of one of the dog breed personality trait...and repeating 'its your call' over and over.

Mmmmm that's really not going to make someone rethink their opinions and bow to what you feel is obviously your superior knowledge of dog behaviour as a breeder and owner.

How lovely it must be to have such a unshakable belief in your ability to asses situations over the net. Excuse me if I don't bow to your better judgement....it's not based on an opinion of you it's based on no sound evidence, experience or qualifications to back up your opinions.

I am not judging you or your dogs but I know the breed and what can happen between dogs who have lived together for many years.
I have heard the words I don't understand what happened they were best friends while one dog was put in a body sack and the other in emergency vets.

I just gave you some of my experience and because I have had these discussions before I just give the information and you can chose to listen or not.

I don't profess to know it all but I do know a bit about Staffordshire Bull Terriers as a breed not just the ones I own now or in the past.

And someone who is very experienced in all breeds and has studied dog behaviour to a high academic level, not just Stafford behaviour and assessed the dogs is not more able to advise me than you? I did not ask you for opinion and to just off hand dismiss the opinions of a behaviourist you know nothing about is really high handed. Like I say I would rather take the advice of a qualified behaviourist who has met and assessed the dogs rather than that of a breeder who feel they know the breed.
