if you are using a dose of carbs to attempt to increase serotonin, then give the carbs about 30 minutes after the meat, if given with the meat it will stand no chance of increasing the all important tryptophan brain levels.

Couple of books that may be useful:

Val Strong - The Dog's Dinner

explains the protocol and theory on giving carbs 30 minutes after a meal to boost serotonin levels

James O'Heare - Canine Neuropsychology

explains the theory and use of 5HTP in aiding serotonin transmission (this one is heavy reading despite being a small book)
