Why is my Westie retching in the mornings?

Hello everybody,
My 1.5 year old West Highland Terrier has started retching in the mornings. She has done this for the last 4 mornings at 5.30am.
She sounds like she is licking for a while and then retches and sometimes brings up a tiny amount of bile. Then she is fine for the rest of the day.She eats her food and is lively and active.I am unsure if i should take her to the vet.I have pet insurance.Any advice to help Molly our Westie is much appreciated.

My Zoe used to do this in the late afternoons, about an hour before she was fed. We started giving her an extra meal, and changed her food. then dropped the extra meal and just gave her a cookie, then we stopped the cookie too...

She is fine now... something about extra bile production before they get their meals when they're fed on a schedule.

I suspect it's hair that she's chewed off irritating her throat or further down if it's getting stuck, as my itchy dog does this most mornings when he's having a good old chew, but he has a skin problem.

If you can stop her chewing, see if that stops the wreching and you'll have cracked it! Otherwise, you might have to make a vet trip. Good luck with her.

its more likely to do with an empty tummy....whwt shouldn't loose hair unless its being nibbled off (and is unclipped or not stripped)

is her parasite control up to date?

She has 2 meals per day.
one at 7.30 am
one at 5.00pm
she is still on the same food she has always had and enjoyed.
i give her half a tin of Butchers tripe at each mealtime.
Thank you for the replies so far.

so the dog has an empty stomach for 12.5 hours, I would suggest this may be the problem.

Why not give the second feed much later say 7:30 0pm or even later?

A big dog biscuit (mine have a big Bonio) or a small handful of food before bed should solve this problem.
