Has anyone heard of throw backs?

Today my dad met someone who had what looked like a miniture rottweiler. He got chatting and asked what it was and was told that his parents were yorkshire terriers and that it was a throw back. Apparently he was 7 months old and had the markings colourings and shaped head of a rottie but stood less than knee high. Wandered if anyone had heard about this sort of thing happening.

It happens with humans too. That's why every now and again you get a pair of twins where one's white and the other is black.

My own dog (despite being a cross-breed) looks just like a border collie and her mum looks just like a border collie, and her dad looks just like a border collie but some of the other puppies in the litter looked just like labradors.

As Ceiron says it's all to do with recessive genes.

I remember a story in the paper a few years ago about a couple who had a huge female rottie and a tiny male Jack Russell. The female wasn't speyed because they assumed the male wouldn't be able to ...er...reach! Anyway she ended up expecting and they never did work out how the Jack Russell managed it. There were some pictures of the puppies in the paper. They were quite odd looking!
