Grey Hound / Whippet Collars

Why do they have to wear the wider collars? I've often wondered this. Is it just to make it look good or do they actually benefit the dog?

i think because they have delicate necks, and as their heads are about the same width as their necks, they can back out of normal-width collars..

Heidi

As a greyhound neck is bigger than its head the collar has to be tighter to stop it slipping(one finger between) and the bit round the throat has to be wider if the dog lunges to stop damage to the throat.

I've been wondering if Dingo would benefit from one as he has the same slender lines as a whippet. He does slip his collars on regular basis as well. Hhhhmmmm

We've been wondering if Rowdy (whippet/lab) would benefit from one as he is whippet shaped but a little bulkier... I also think his neck is a little more labby than the rest of him but his owner thinks its more whippety.

Presumably it wouldn't hurt to have one on him?
