Looby - If she's not a dog person then theres not much you can do really I know you're upset about it but don't fall out with your sister over it)
I know when I was pregnant I had loads of preconceived ideas ..like my child would never eat a sausage roll in the street by the time he was one we had a standing order at Sayers
maybe you could suggest walks together ...her with pram , you with dog ..then he could have sly sniffs and get to know baby gradually
My MIL won't come in the house if 'IT' is about 'IT has to go in the car I hate it but at the same time it takes the pressure off , like you say he would only have to dribble on her and that would be disaster .
I'm sure it will sort itself out in time -

thanks everyone....not as upset this morning...have been lazy whilst OH is golfing, dudley and I had a lie in til 10. ops:

i've spoken to my dad this morning and told him, parents are lovey :smt001 ( sadly my mum died several years ago ) he thinks she may change her mind.

i forgot when posting last nite, their plan is when my sister returns to work part time her parents in law will have baby one day a week. they have a collie, who is the nastiest thing you could meet, never been socialised or trained and if you go to stroke him as i did he snaps and lunges at you......

its my own fault for getting upset i got carried away in my mind with babysitting and taking junior out for long walks in the pram with dudley, as when baby is here dudley will be older and able to be taken further.

chloe i dont have a crate, his basket goes into the kitchen when hes confined and he has a big soft cushion in our room to sleep on, though he is usually on our bed he doesnt go back to his basket when we are home and always follows to be in the same room, in the living room as he is not allowed on the sofa he has his own poufee ( how spoilt )

is it too late to introduce him to a crate and do you keep yours in the same place, as our kitchen is long and not very wide, though there is ample space in the hall. how big a cage would i need?

i have an aunty who doesnt like dogs so doesnt visit.

Phoebe has a big crate - its great for putting washing on and stashing things on She was a year old when I introduced her to it and she loves it. She goes in of her own accord, and rarely is the door shut - only when we have visitors - she doesn't mind. Its just a case of leaving it there with some nice vet bed and if Dudley is anything ike Pheebs he will start using it of his own accord. Its just very useful if you need some quiet time without the dog around

Looby I think she'll change her mind, don't worry about it. Especially if she's sending the baby to the nasty dogs house. She'll see the light, don't worry. My family and friends still visit, even if they wished I "put that thing away." (Tigger, lol )

Do you think it's wise to put a dog in a cage that isn't accustomed to that since puppyhood? Just wondering if it would be harmful in some way since the dog didn't grow up with it. Sounds traumatic.

Barbara - its not traumatic at all. As long as its seen as a positive place to be and the door is only closed for short periods and the dog gets used to being in there before being enclosed and its not used as a punishment place then its no worse than a bed in another room....it just means the dog can sit and watch whats going on without feeling excluded
