The Queen

As we're probably all tired of hearing in the news now, Helen Mirren has more-or-less swept the film awards boards for her depiction of HMTQ. However, undeterred, Mrs S and I sat through the DVD yesterday, and I have to say this:
Mirren is incredible! In fact, it's uncanny! One oddity of casting is that of James Cromwell as Chooky (Chooky Embra, that is ) - he is better known to us as Farmer Hoggett from "Babe", or as various (fictional) slimy US Presidents!

Don't be put off by the blurb on the back of the DVD package - it drivels on, painting the Royal Family as a train wreck in progress, and Tony Blair as the superhero who has to leap in to save the world for autocracy - the film itself is amusing in places, touching in places, and well-produced in all places.

Hats off to Helen Mirren, who nearly succeeded in making me feel sorry for these overmoneyed aristos!
