A brain tumour caused it, crushed the nerve between my ear and my brain leaving me with unilateral deafness and tinnitus, along with short term memory problems and vertigo.

Brain surgery saved my life, but left me with the deafness etc. Small mercies and all that!

Try not to do the constant reruns in your mind.
It keeps the stress levels up and sometimes its the next innocent that speaks to you that gets it back for no reason
