Hi Emma the vet recently commented on Chloe's clean teeth, she has stag bars to chew and dried fish .

I also use Logic gel putting it on the roof of the mouth rather than the tongue.

Tbh I have never had a dog that has suffered with plaque build up and have always assumed that's because they've always had big knuckle bones to chew on from 8 weeks old. Although I guess it could be like humans and depend on how acid or alkaline their mouth is.

I have found that Seaweed for horses helps. It's much cheaper that the one for dogs.

That looks like a really good site, excellent prices. I will get some of the garlic and the seaweed when I get some money in next week. Thanks for that

Sorry for the delay in getting back to this. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions, very helpful

Glad others think it's not such a good idea about him having another GA so soon - the last one knocked him for six a bit, took him a few days to properly get over it.

Will try him on raw carrots / parsnips first as a bit of a lead in to raw bones or stag bars as he isn't much of a chewer at the moment - can't remember who mentioned it, but I always supervise Jake eating anything, if only to stop Jasper from muscling in and stealing it. Will also look into the logic gel too.

Thanks again. The vet is new and has just taken over the practice so a tinsy part of me is a trifle cynical as no one mentioned his teeth before and his gums look ok to me, not inflamed or anything.

What a good idea! So simple but I hadn't ever thought of doing that! I had logic gel for ole Charlie after she had some teeth removed due to abscess in jaw. More or less gave up with it in the end - I'd been told to apply it directly to her remaining teeth. (Glad to say she kept the ones that were left and they remained good for the rest of her life).
