Know it alls!!

I was walking the kids to school this morning with the puppy as she can now have 20 mins excercise. She is 17 weeks today .

I have seen him around the area with his beautiful, huge, male Weimeraner.

He knew straight away what Rua was. I wasn't allowed let her say hello to his big boy who looked very uneasy with her near him.

He proceeded to tell me how much hard work she was going to be and did I realise she was going to need 2 hours exercise a day.

I just answered "really really" and smiled and continued on with our walk.

Now I have no doubt that owning a HPR breed himself he does know about the dogs needs, just irks me somewhat to think that he would assume that I know nothing about this dog that I have taken on.

Thanks for listening

I think you handed him just right. Smile, nod and walk away!

I've got three calendars round my desk at work, a photo on my desk of OH and my two greyhounds and had someone telling me yesterday about how her mum's friend is a foster for greyhounds and what they are like. I said I've got two and that's why I've got pictures of them round me, but still she went on about what they are like and how they only run for short bursts and are then tired for the rest of the day. How gentle and loving them are, how they sleep upside down and so on.......

This was all from a person who doesn't actually have a dog!

I think people just have to let you know that they know, or think they do!!

I had it when Ivan was young too. He was only about 6 months old and a guy with an akita told at what age he will mature and that he will be a great watch do too!

He is the worst watch dog you have ever met and would happily go with anyone who gave him a cuddle and probably just lick them to death!!

Know exactly what you are both saying, I am amazed at how many people who keep telling me how yappy and nasty chihuahuas are and my Betty is odd because she isn't, then they say still give it time she is still young. Well the work we have put into socialising her I will be very disappointed if she is yappy, nasty etc.

Owning a staffie you unfortunately get used to people telling you what they think they know about them....
Their jaws lock
Their skulls really do crack
You always have to carry a break bar with you to separate her if she fights
You can never ever leave a staffie with any other dog home alone, they must be crated at all time because if something happens they'll kill the other dog!
(those were all on a staffie forum which I left promptly!)

You'll never be able to fully trust her...she WILL turn one day
You'll be sorry when she rips your children's faces off...then you'll know how wrong you are about Staffies (shouted at use from across a field by a pensioner...while I was with my 2 and 3 year old daughters and Tonks was sit staying next to me...off lead...while I got a stone out of my daughters wellie!)

And on and on.

Oh and all said about the most gentle dog you could ever meet. Steady with dogs and people. The one our dog walker borrows if she has a new dog who she is unsure if it will be reactive to dogs or not because she knows Tonks will ignore them and not over react if they have a pop at her. The dog the vet had never seen growl despite treating her for five years....until he tried to examine her swollen toe, which turned out to be fractured. The second he stopped touch it she liked him all over ...and then let him look at it again.

But she will be victim to the harshest critics all other life and probably won't even prove them wrong if she dies with a clean score card because I expect they would say they we had just been lucky!

Makes me very very sad.

What the... You would kind of assume that other staffie owners would know this is complete bull..
I know all dogs are different and have different needs etc, but at the end of the day they're still the same species and none of them will randomly "turn one day" into a savage beast.

Eh well.. people will say and believe what they want. My uncle (who has never had dogs and never studied dogs) firmly believes in breed specific legislations and now that I've got a staffie he keeps telling me I've got a dangerous fighting dogs, those should be put down.

I know Florence...hence why I left! Those are the people who are supposed to be fighting for the breed but a lot of them seem to think that they had loaded guns on the end of the lead...which makes you wonder why they want them in the first place! Like I say...I left that forum and found Dogsey instead!
