My OH has been doing working trials with Obi for about 2 months now, Obi really enjoys it and keeps his mind thinking, he especially loves the agility side of it but we are struggling with retrieves and the search square but im sure we will get there it took us long enough to get him to even play.

Here are a couple of photos of their first day training outside, we usually train in an indoor arena. There were some new dogs to Obi as well so we kept the long line on incase he disliked any of them although he was very good!

Practicing the long jump

Practicing before their go on the clear jump

We have been warned tht you are outside in all weathers and our first day out did not disappoint it poured all day!

The pics are fab, does Obi like playing with soft or hard items?, i used to use my gloves and personal objects to get 1 of my last dogs to play and retreive, and started him off in the search with my items, then any items to be used i used to carry around with me so i would sent them well, hubby objected when i ever used his jacket lol
I have just stopped doing Schutzhund, to return to working trials as i find the dogs enjoy the challenge more, and the work never follows the same pattern so the dog can't anticapate
good luck and happy training

I have always fancied having a go at working trials, and have been told there is a guy nearby who runs courses, so as soon as my newest GSD addition is old enough, I will be looking into it.

I know Anne Bussey has helped train Marney Wells Staffies for WT, so is used to training the smaller breeds.

Thanks for the advice. I have an idea of how to start a pup/young dog tracking, but not sure how I should get him "article happy"??? Is that just getting him used to picking up all sorts of items?

Yes Kirsty, picking up anything, even leaves that you have put your scent on
