I remember when I ran my friends labs out for the day with mine. One of them kept coming back with rabbits. Now as these were working labs and used on shoots they were softmouthed. So all the rabbits were unharmed. They kept dropping them at my feet and I had to hide the rabbit under my coat til the dogs lost interest then released them again. I was told off for it as they shouldn't chase rabbits as this would distract them in their work on a shoot, but it was very difficult as they kept appearing out of the bracken on the hillside with these bloomin rabbits. 8 in one walk

If a rabbit has mixy its eyes are bulging and they are usually blind at that stage.

To give you some perspective of how large the South Downs are, they run from Winchester right across to Eastbourne.

I have enclosed a map of it so you can get some idea of just how large it is.

The warning to me was when he SHOT OFF in front of me when apparently you saw no reason for it. Knowing dogs have much better senses than we do I would of assumed that he caught wind of something, which he did.
Dawn.

Max can "shoot off" and grab a plant or a stone and bring it back to me (he has no hunting instinct for live animals that I've ever seen)

If he ever does chase rabbits/birds in our field, he bounces at them with no stealth at all.

I can see the points of people who say you should have called him back; but as Colin has stated, his dogs have never done this before.

Now he has seen Onyx do this, I'm sure he'll recognise the signs and be able to call him back if needed.

Just a query regards my bitch. She chases jumping fish in the lake and dives for them. How do I recall her underwater, would sonar training be the right course to take.

Well done Onyx on bringing home some grub. Hope he enjoys the meal.

Willow has caught a few pidgeons in her time, carried them around proudly and then feasts on them.
She has yet to meet any bunnies.

Archie has caught a young magpie and a young crow this year; but he ain't figured out that he can eat them as well. Once he's killed them he's not quite sure what happens next. Just looks at it with a puzzled look on his face.
