how to teach 'play dead' + sit pretty

i taught kiera my last gsd to do 'dead' and she picked it up in about 10 mins, would only do it for me and even learned(by herself) to slow her breathing so it looked like she was dead... but i cant remember 'how' i taught her it and i want to teach rose it
ive tried having rose in down then lifting the treat round over her shoulder/neck/back so she flops onto her side but she just trys to do face or thinks i mean roll over

also how do/did you teach 'sit pretty'(sitting up on hind legs)?

ive looked at other sites for the sit pretty one but they go on and on so if you could maybe put it numbered, step by step lol if its not too much trouble
thanks

What a good question. Roxy learnt it really quickly too and she really does stare dead ahead and look dead. Its brilliant! lol.

Have you tried laying Rose down and then pushing her into the position, thinking about it I remember my OH used to put Roxy in the position and then reward her loads. Now he doesn't say dead, he points his fingers like a gun and says "bang" and she does it

With the dead position. I just put mine into a down position, then encouraged them onto their sides while saying the command and stroking down their side so they were happy to stay in that position. After a few times they picked up the command.

With the sit pretty, I put the dog in a neat sit. Then encourage them up with treats. putting the treat in front of their nose until they lifted their front paws up.

I'm sure they're are other ways. There are some good books on amazon, if you type in dog tricks. Not sure if I can advertise but a certain book by a certain well known lady who does heel work to music at Crufts has a good book out regards this, builds on the basic commands so very easy to follow.

Good luck, but although I've never taught this to any of my dogs, I only have to get the grooming kit out in this house for my rescue dog Georgie to instantly go into said position! Maybe his previous owner taught him this when she wanted to groom him, coz the speed he does it is quite incredible!!
