Hi to all

Hi there,

I am looking for a new dog at present after getting over the loss of my Chocolate Lab Barney, the best dog there ever could be.

I can't make my mind up, I want a dog that is docile indoors, good with children, dogs & cats, be medium to large. It must like the outdoors and cold, wet, frequently inclement weather as I live in the Ribble valley with the Forest of Bowland and the Yorkshire Dales on my doorstep and I visit the Lakes often, all day stamina would be useful in view of this.

Possibilities are:

Another Lab
Chesapeake bay retriever
Gordon Setter
Bernese MD
Estrela

I know that some of these are not that widely available. Problem is getting a pup, I start the summer hols in a week's time for five weeks, the ideal time to start a new dog where it will get 100% attention.

Any ideas of other suitable breeds would be welcome.

well if your considering a bmd then why not a leo? they are bigger though but love water and swimming i have 2 and they love outside mine go on the drive at night and chill.
if you want any more info look at the breed notes for leonbergers see what you think to them.

Hi and welcome to Dogweb.

I couldn't really recommend a Utonagan as they love company and would be sad when you go back to school. They have a wonderful nature though, and although not docile, soooo sweet and affectionate but very, very stubborn and boisterous.

Hope you find the right dog for you on here.
