I suppose it's because I'm old but I do feel uncomfortale seeing a McDonalds and a souvenir shop right next to it, and I do wonder if all those tourists wondering around really know what went on back in those dark days, I wonder if they know how many young East Germans were shot by their own troops trying to cross over, and how wonderfully PC to have a black and white waxwork soldier on guard

OK not wax work models Not a job I could do no matter what the pay was

ETA:-
Kind of proves what I was saying. When it was a genuine East/West crossing point there is no way anyone could take photos of anything so what is the point of taking a photograph standing next to an actor with a McDonalds in the background Just my logic at work here I guess

I remember the wall coming down too, and I lived in Germany when I was young, I remember us going on holiday and being little needing the loo, of course we were in middle of nowhere so my mum told me to nip behind a bush- I did but wandered further along than I should and crossing the border to East Germany and got shouted at very loudly by a East German border guard - I was 7
But no I agree seems a bit wrong to have a mac'ds behind that. Paying for photos is the norm these days, also stops idiots damaging stuff.
Great photos though
