Alfie (english setter)

15 months old and now a very handsome chap (although a bit too much coat than I really like, but it does make him look nice!)

He has a real bond with my son, Sam:

Only a few more weeks and we can start his training proper, on the grouse. He is showing a lot of promise, but you never know until you get them up there.

Thank you. Dotty, my other setter, is a LOT chunkier than Alfie. Alf's sire is an import, and I think they are more slightly over there than here.

Gorgeous boy, although I want proper close up pics next time!

I highlighted in bold the bit which I think is interesting, I often think this comment is what starts most breeds going in a different direction in the show ring "too much coat, but doesn't he look nice...."

I often find myself thinking this about Isla. When she's all bathed and groomed for a show she looks amazing, but then realistically for working it's just not practical....

I'll get some proper close up ones. Problem is when he's close, he just wants fussing. He is such a lovely boy.

Agree with the coat and showing. I am going to have to trim him before working him. Dotty, my other setter, hasn't got much coat and she still gets knotty after working, so can see him being worse. They do have different coat types though so possibly might not affect him as much? Who knows.

He is and such a lovely boy. We got him when he was 10 months old and within 24 hours, he had bonded with us all (particularly my son), and it was as though he had always been here. A real joy to own. (Might not be saying that once he starts working though )
