I think he would be from a double merle mating (was abandoned as a pup, so don't know his complete history).

No sight, he has micropthalmia (sp?). Deaf too.

I dont think its the same
Well kind of - looks like the experts cant agree but there is a recessive gene for albeno and a different gene for merle
But albeno just means lack of pigment and merle is a dilution gene so a double merle can have a total lack of pigment
So
I think (confused yet - I am)
a totally white double merle with pink nose and eye rims could be called albino (as in no pigment) - BUT dosent actually carry the albino gene

True Albinism doesn't exist in dogs. Mine are Double Dapples (Merles), white Danes are double merle or double harle, or merle x harle.

White Boxers (as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong) are the result of fancy fawn x fancy fawn causing extreme piebald (extreme pattern white... cant remember the correct term in Boxers )

White Pitbulls are either caused by the same as boxers, or 2 dilutes bred together (blue-blue, etc)

I did some research on Albinism in dogs awhile back, as it was asked about on the deaf dog group I'm on. But I cant find the links I was sent at the time. I'm going to have to find them again, but suffice it to say, TRUE, genetic Albinism does not exist in dogs (that has ever been documented). All the "albinos" that you see when googling, are just white for some other reason, and mislabelled, as people just assume white means albino.

And the Doberman controvercy, this may actually be the closest to albinism a dog gets, but it's not decided whether or not it's true albinism...

But apparently, it's not true Albinism, the same that's in people, mice, rats, rabbits, etc. It's similar to the white, blue-eyed cats though and one step up from true albinism.
