How to make a good cake!!!

I've had a busy week.
We have had visitors from Germany so we have been out every day sight seeing plus all the usual cooking and entertaining
Then on Thursday it was my G-daughters 18th birthday so we were all out for a meal in the evening.
Yesterday I made Elisha her favourite chocolate cake ready for when they all came today, put it in the oven and went off to change all the beds etc.
A bit later I wondered what I could smell. Yep you guessed it, I reached the kitchen to find smoke billowing from the oven
Well I let it cool and then trimmed off what was burnt and decorated it
They couldn't eat it after lunch so they took it home with them today.
I've just had a message on the forum of which we don't speak to say it was the best cake they have ever had
I will try it again next time
