Well, I am glad I never fell for it but you get a sixth sense about these things on the other hand I did wonder if it was anything to do with the court cases arising from the Post Office hold-ups but no way 20+ years on!

Moyra, I have caller display and a phone with answer machine and call block...was expensive but saves me so much hassle...they call and the phone anounces either name if in my contacts or number...if I don't know it, it's witheld I just leave it go to answer machine, then Google the number and then add to blocked calls. If after googling it seems legit, next time i answer and see what they want...I never speak first .

Thanks folks for the puppy congratulations (I've passed them on to their proud Mum) she is doing very well for a first time mummy and seems in good health after what must have been a bit of a shock.
Brenda - in answer to your question - there are two boys (Nab and Grip) and two girls ( Sweep and Doris). Names were picked by the Mem so I've no choice in the matter. I think that little Sweep will be the one to spend her life with us, she is the smallest pup but hugely determined even at less than 24 hours old, and makes the same noise as her TV puppet namesake.
