There are plenty of breeds without docked tails who work just as well as ones with so if you are okay with it purely for "working" terms then I would think again about what exactly that means.

Not sure I have once said I am OK with it or would do it? I find ear pinning and cropping more disgusting than tail docking. My choice.

I am told that years ago the old men in the mining villages used to bite off their puppies tails to dock then put a cobweb on to stop the bleeding Biting was said to make a neater cut

I was always anti docking and thought the pro arguments just didn't hold water. But I thought the pro group might be right so I chopped off Norman's tail in case in got hurt, then the ears had to go just in case. Then there was always a risk that he'd injure a foot so in the bin they went. Dachshunds have notorious bad backs so that had to go to.

And I can honestly tell you that I was right in the first place. Norman is no fun now.

If it aint broke - don't fix it!

Edited to add - Dizzy's tail is BEAUTIFUL

Way AGAINST docking!!! There is no point to it. Its just unnecessary pain for the pup.

I have a Swedish Vallhund, and he is NOT docked (as the breed usually is in the UK and the USA). I can't imagine him without his tail, and it makes his outline more "even".

If I ever get into breeding I will definetly not be docking.

I'm totally against docking 'for looks', after seeing far too many bodged up 'DIY jobs'.

But, for health reasons such as risk of disease etc, then yes I'm for it.

I can't comment about working dogs since I know absolutely nothing about the subject.
