So after all your advise i wont be going away till the middle of next year and the pup should be around 8 months old
Hi Suzey a well considered and wise decision which I am sure you won't regret .

The period of puppy hood lasts such a short time, enjoy every moment .

dog kennels wont and should not take puppies under 6 months old. we had to leave Our pup with friends who also had dogs and could continue her training this was wen she was bout 4 months old if anything it helped her out immensly and she was quite timid but socialising her with this other pack and other people really helped bring out her character alot.
I left instructions with the commands we had started her on just so that there was continuity in her training.

I dont think attacking him will make him change his opinions, but maybe if we challenge without getting personal and offer alternatives, people may take that on board, i know it worked for me.
I agree. Ignorance is bliss. I think it's much more effective to just ignore someone like this to be honest.

I think she meant when OP was looking at her next litter? Well, that's how I read it.

No, i think you have the wrong end of the stick, i was saying that i would have the hol and get a pup from another litter. Then this post immediatly follwed and i was being cheeky and saying she could choose a pup from rescue, because your right theres to many pups in rescue and its not a good place for them!

''...pups raised without human contact would show fearful reactions to humans at five weeks of age but could readjust over 2 weeks time if handled often, Puppies first exposed to human contact at twelve weeks of age, however immediately reacted very fearfully and fled from the experimenters. They acted essentially like wild animals and were socially irretrievable. They had missed the vital contact during the critical period.'' p 43, First Edition.
What does this have to do with taking a puppy that has finished it's jabs and is safe to go out, out into the big wide world. They need to be introduced to noise, traffic, people and dogs and as many sights and sounds as possible in a calm and safe way. Are you disagreeing with that?

The other point is the puppy should be forming a strong bond with it's humans. If you shut it in a kennel with another dog for a week it will bond more strongly with the other dog.

I agree that the "Ignore" function is often the best way. But in Labman's case he specialises in offering the most appalling advice to inexperienced owners with young pups who have run into trouble. I think he should be challenged every time he does it, as to ignore could be mistaken for unspoken agreement from everyone else on the thread. For someone new to Dogsey, they may be left with a very false impression of how the vast majority approach the care and training of their dogs
