Testing, testing! new-to-me old digicam

Found a Canon Ixus 500 [5 megapixels] in a charity shop today, boxed with all documentation but missing computer leads, for £10.

Okay so it's some years old but a lot younger than my trusty Nikon 2200 which is the only camera I have.

I've been playing with it tonight and I am hugely impressed so far It's a little weighty but solidly made which is good, and has an amazing array of features. I've yet to see if all of them still work (a risk in an older used camera) but so far, so good.

How about this one for starters? the autofocus is awesome... just look at the clarity in the eyes...

Well done!

If that photo's anything to go by, you've picked yourself up quite a bargain

Been playing about with it today -

It seems to have some kind of intermittent fault where the display (and pic) goes pink and weird!

...but only in the manual mode. I fiddled about and it went, - might be something to do with the White Balance.

Looks like you got yourself a bargain there.
I've a Canon Ixus 75, it's got 7.1 mega pixels, and I love it! I've had it for years but still get a buzz when I get a really decent shot with it.

Thank you all

Still getting to grips with it - it's not your normal point & shoot as it has so many manual modes! Trying to get the Continuous Shooting mode working, so maybe I can (at last!) get some action shots.

I really do miss my old SLR but it will be many a year before I can afford a DSLR.

I had a Pentax ME Super for about 20+ years.... loved it! and had photos published in a few books and magazines. Photography was part of my Foundation Course in Art & Design many years ago and one of my favourite subjects; I still love the smell of photographic chemicals [yup, weird!]

I might even look around for another Pentax ME Super as they must be cheap as chips now (and such a classic, perhaps a future collectible)... but won't be able to use it unless I get contact lenses again - I found I couldn't get the focus right any more when I started wearing specs.
