Barney was attacked once by a Wim, Barney was on his lead on the way to the park and the other dog was loose, he came charging to Barney and got hold of his neck, I kicked the dog and grabed Barney, the owner just walked past, i checked him and there was nothing on him, but 2 days later he was coverd in scabs. This same dog is still running loose around where it happend and the owners dont care.

Im sure Archie will be fine, just try and find lots of friendly dogs for him to play with and he will soon be confident with everyone.

I'm sorry about Archie, and yes u did the right thing.

I'm just a bit confused... I can understand you asking your question, BUT hadnt they been playing earlier? The dog apparently isnt aggressive all the time. It seems Archie just happened to be so unlucky to make a wrong move...

WHY THE HELL CAN'T PEOPLE KEEP AGGRESSIVE DOGS ON A LEAD IN A PARK FULL OF OTHER DOGS???

I know what you mean Tuti. These people must be aware that their dog may attack another! It's so inconsiderate and some dogs temperaments are ruined by experiences like this. I would NEVER allow either of my older dogs(Millie and Milo) off lead anywhere, because, I know for a fact that they would bite if another adult dog harrassed them.Milo is very "gobby" and it is quite plain to anyone that he dislikes other dogs but Millie never barks or growls at all. I feel it is my responsibility to ensure that they never get the opportunity to fight with another dog, because, whether they started it or not, they would be blamed and they are more than capable of seriously hurting aomeone pet. For these reasons, not only do I not let them off lead, I don't take them anywhere that there may be loose dogs. They have plenty of dog interaction at home, they live very happily in a pack of 4 (with 2 of them spending time at my Mums and having lots of stays with me)and are much more interested in playing with us than with other dogs anyway!!
The other big bugbear of mine is people letting their dogs off lead that have not got a good recall on them. How often do you see some half grown dog, lolloping across a park towards another dog whilst its owner stands there yelling at it? If your dog is not trained to come back, why on earth would you let it off the lead???

I am sorry you had such a fright and I hope that inconsiderate person has learnt his lesson and will keep his dog on the lead in future.

Awww Poor Archie Im glad he was ok after though! Poor little guy!

I have to say, i've been quite lucky with my puppies that most of the dogs we've met out on walks have been very friendly! I dont know what i'd do if one starting attacking one of my dogs though!!

Im sorry to hear about Archie being attacked but am really glad to hear that he and you are both ok.

Unfortunately, some people just don't understand the responsibility of owning a dog

(((hugs))) @ Archie. What a rotten experience for you Tuti. Don't listen to the "font of all doggy knowledge" the guy sounds like a bit of a pr@t. Terrier can be fiestier with other dogs but only if the owner lets them. I well socialised terrier can be as dog friendly as any other breed, but it takes work and an understanding of what sets your dog off. With the amount of work you have put into raising Archie as a acceptable member of doggy society, there is very little chance that he will turn aggressive. You could have taught the pr@t a thing or two about raising a well socialised dog. It is great when Archie gets to meet happy friendly dogs like himself, but it is also a learning experience for him to meet dogs that are less tolerant. The first time Olive got attacked was by a wee Jack Russell. Up until then Olive wanted to play with every dog she saw. After the attack she was certainly more cautious and took time to read the other dogs body language before intitiating any interaction. The attack was terrible at the time (and I am ashamed to say I kicked the dog hard to get it off Olive), but it also helped Olive grow up a bit and calmed down around other dogs.

Hope you're feeling better hun.

I had an incident with a woman yesterday with a staffordshire bull terrier. I love staffies by the way I hate owners who don't control their dogs. I put Jake on the lead as I didn't know her the staffie ran up to jake and grabbed him by the neck, I always carry a bottle of water with me (vets advice) I poured the water over the staffie who promptly jumped with the shock and ran away. The owner cussed and sweared at me, I infomed her by law she is required to keep her dog under control at all times if she is not capable of doing so she should keep him on the lead. She told me if I wanted to keep my dog on the lead I should keep him in my back garden and not take him out. I informed her again of the law and asked her if Jake had been a rotweiller would she have been so quick to let her staffie run up to him: I think not. By this time I couldn't be bothered arguing anymore with her and she was cussing and swearing so I used my mobile phone to take a picture of her and her dog and I have passed the info on to the appropriate authorities not that they will do anything about it I expect!!

So Tuti my run in was not as calm as yours if anyone does anything to Jake the lioness instinct in me takes over. I am very glad Archie is fine carry a bottle of water at all times it works on the dog and I was very very tempted to use it on the owner as well

I am not surprised, you would have been perfectly justified. It's stupid people like that who are causing so many problems for my poor breed.
