good news

Lola has passed all health cheacks and can be mated in feb i am useing a dog from my breeder where i got lola from, she has recently got a lovely little cav boy that she says i can use with lola, i am as ready as ever to go through with this, seen welping, and gots heaps of advice and knowledge from other breeders, wish us all luck.
My breeders dog hold clear and heart and eye certs, i dont have the certs but my vet says she is in tip top condition and cannot hear or see any probs, he says that there is no need to pay for certs etc unless you can see there is a prob,,like my star she was not too be used so i had her spayed as the vet told me she does have a heart prob listening to her heart. will do tests when she gets older as that is when it will start too show more serious signs..hopefully not for many many years yet .
Will post in Feb and let you know if it has been successful or not. I have a great relationship with my vet who will be there on the end of the phone should any prob arise, as will my breeder be here too assist if need be too.

Fingers crossed it will all go well, although i bet i end up keeping them all..lol as i will find it hard too part with the little babies.

Hugs Loz xx star and lola xx

As someone interested in breeding, I hope you will(/have) read these:

http://www.dogsey.com/dog-breeders.htm

http://www.dogsey.com/dog-articles.php?t=12589

http://www.dogsey.com/dog-articles.php?t=12882

They highlight some important things that are generally expected from breeders, and or ask people to think before breeding.

Not making any assumptions about you - just posting these as I would wish everyone considering breeding to read _before_ going ahead and doing it.

Well done for doing the tests, but your Vet cannot detect all heart problems, they need to be done by doppler. Its really a MUST with Cavaliers.

Hi Lozzy.
Whilst taking my Papillon to the Vet today, I mentioned health testing for Cavaliers, and they were very shocked to hear a vet has said the specified health tests carried out by specialists were not necessary, before breeding from a dog. She said a canine cardiologist MUST perform the heart scan and that a canine Opthalmologist MUST perform the eye tests, anything less would be shirking rsponsibility and NOT ensuring you were doing everything you could to produce a healthy litter.

I thought I'd mention it, i wasnt 100% sure yesterday but it was confirmed today. The stud dog owner should also be pulled up on allowing untested females to be mated to their dogs.

I know you want whats best for your dog and her unborn puppies, so if you want me to find any cardio and Opthal' specialists for you, I will do my best to locate one.
Dawn.

i can give you a phone number for a cardio and opthal specialist in Southampton ..in my opinion the best in the south ...

i asked my vet once if he could do it ...he said would you let your GP perform brain surgery ...guess not
