Should I get a male Border Collie (already have a female Westie)

Hi all, I'm new to the forum so thought I'd introduce myself here.

I am looking to develop my interest in dog training and I'm hoping to get a Border Collie in the near future and start obedience training.
I currently have a very sweet Westie named Daisy (she needed a home so I took her on) and I've really enjoyed training her but have not attended any formal training classes. Before Daisy I had a GSD for 14 years but sadly she died 4 years ago.

I've always had female dogs but as I already have a female I think I might do better to get a male Border Collie, What do you think?

I think getting a male sounds like a good idea Shane.
How old is Daisy? Has she been spayed? How long have you had her?

Sorry to hear about your GSD..

Hi, daisy is 4, I've had her from a puppy when somebody I know bought her and quickly lost interest. She is not spayed but if I got a male then I would have him done.

GENERALLY opposite genders work better.

However millions of dogs exist happily with other dogs of the same gender.

If your bitch is fine with other dogs I would say the choice is up to you.

Why can't you do formal obedience with your Westie?

She is still young and trainable (you said you have already trained her a bit). I do formal obedience with a Pug X, size is no barrier.

Maybe you could take her to some classes to see if you really enjoy it before commiting to a Collie.

But I guess it depends on your Westie whether you get a male or female Collie. Does she prefer to play with males or females?
