I had a classic a few years ago on Hunstanton seafront.

"Oh, what a beautiful Briard"

"lol...no, he's an Afghan Hound", I replied.

"I'm sorry love, but I'll think you'll find he's a Briard"

*I quickly turn to my wife and with a look of panic I ask her to hand me my mobile*

"Is everything ok?", said the lady.

"I just need to ring his breeder urgently.", I replied. "She's been breeding and showing them since 1969 thinking they're Afghan Hounds"

My German Shorthaired Pointer is a Chocolate Labrador crossed with a Great Dane.
Course he is. Sometimes you just nod and move away....

Watching the liver coloured pointer on Crufts last night it did cross my mind that I bet he gets a lot of people talking to him about his "Dobe"! Was an unusual colour for as GSP I think.

A soon-to-be first time dog owner was absolutely insistent that her Labradoodle pup she was getting, once grown, would 'easily' be as substantial and heavy as my fully grown male Rottie.....errrr, don't think so

Best of this is, she hasn't even met my dog!

Made me smile if nothing else!
I had a blue merle collie once and had many comments, mainly from children, about her looking old when she was still a puppy! She also had one blue eye and I was asked if she was blind on more than one occasion.

I'm really enjoying reading all your experiences.

Such a witty and brilliant response!

Loved this thread, read every post - soooo many silly people in the world!

I don't get loads of funny comments. Although the other day I was walking through a narrow pathway and a gang of black lads were there (I'm not picking out colour for no reason - it is relevant)
1 lad saw Axel and jumped out the way, the others laughed and said "Why are you scared? It's a Greyhound" He replied "Yeah, but a lady wouldn't walk one with a muzzle on for no reason! Plus, look how he's looking at me, the dog is thinking 'you black b*****'!"
I kept a straight face until I went past, but I had to laugh, if I'd have been on my own and walking through them, but with my black Greyhound who's clearly scary and rascist, I felt safe.

Recently as well a little toddler was being pushed in a pushchair past us and they pointed at Axel and said "Mummy! A Horsey!" To which Mum explained "not horsey...doggy"

Keep the funny stories coming!
