Is it normal for a 7 week old puppy to hump?

Hi,

As some of you know, I recently got an Akita puppy. Judah is 7 weeks old and is generally a laid-back dog. Just now I was sitting on the floor, with my legs outstretched when he mounted my leg and made a humping motion! I know that this is what some male dogs do but Judah is barely 7 weeks old! It doesn't seem like normal behaviour to me. Can someone shed some light on this?

he's playing and practising, totally normal...would be best to distract him though and not allow him to do it!

Gosh, I thought 7 weeks was way too early. Will have to distract him quickly!

It has nothing to do with sex, it's usually done when they get excited about something and don't know how to express it or redirect it!

Icon did it the night we brought him home at 9 weeks, having always had girl dogs, I was quite surprised (although my girl dogs used to hump each other but not me!) Icon still does it now, although I'm trying to distract him.....!
