Got my Baby Utonagan

Hello!

We got our little man 2.5 weeks ago and he's a beautiful little dog, but boy is he spirited, that's why I haven't had a chance to post.

He was 9 weeks last Saturday and he has learned "be clean" for going to the toilet outside (although he has had one or two little accidents), "sit", "stay" (when it suits him!), "paw", his name (Loki, not Soren), "walkies" (in my arms at the moment), "who's that?", "off", "dinner" and my husband's name. He's sort of got the hang of "lie down", and is learning "kiss". Oh yeah, and "no"! . We've done lead training indoors and around the garden and he's pretty good MOST of the time. It's amazing - everywhere we go we are swamped with Loki fans rushing up to him and cuddling him. One woman in a pet shop shoved her face into his and happily accepted his licks!

His more unsavoury specialities to date are leaping up (awful when you're eating dinner!), nipping/play biting (really, REALLY hurts!). We're trying to train him using the reward thing and for the leaping/biting routine by first shouting, "ouch" but he just gets even more excited, so we've migrated to stomping off in a huff (two grown ups, I ask you!) and ignoring him and if that doesn't work, we put him in a different room for a few minutes until he calms down. That works eventually but he soon resumes his boisterous play.

The other thing is (sorry about this!) his poos! How much is a pup meant to poo? He produces about 5 a day
He hasn't got used to going through the night and typically does what he needs to do on the newspaper and then shouts to tell us to clean it up!

Love him to bits!

Phew, it's normal then! You should see the state of my garden with all bare tufts where once there was grass!

Never a truer word ... I am starting to think he might be a kangaroo in disguise!

I will post some pics on the pics site when I figure out how to do it - the free photo site thing isn't available at the moment.

The 'boinging' doesn't get any better as they get older. Luca's still doing it and she's 27 months old

EEK! So when you are preparing her dinner, there's not much point in keeping it on the work surface - she'll get it anyway!!!
