For Nippy and all the others who like flowers

Since I know Jenny loves plants, I thought I would take a few pictures of some flowers in our garden, only two so far but thought I would start the thread off and add more as I go.
This is the only flower that is 'wow', I have no idea what it is and it comes from the most boring looking plant, I pulled two of them out when we first moved in here and lucky for me more regrew as we didn't see a flower on it for about two years and now they pop up on the odd occasion, they only come out for one day, then wilt

Our Callistemon

Wow, that first one is pretty impressive! I really don't know too much about plants, but wondering if it is some kind of orchid?

Just as well you didn't do the job properly and it did grow back...although I guess you would never have known what you were missing if it hadn't

It is amazing, someone said what they thought is was once, but I forgot but no one really knows, my guess would be some sort of orchid, but it is a fairly ugly looking plant.
I would have missed out badly, it looks quite impressive compared to my easy plants, mind you this one gets no treatment either, it resprouts but sending out a leaf and it goes into the ground then roots and grows another one, very weird

Beautifull, how big is it, it's difficult to tell the size from a pic.
I have got a Callistemon, that I grew from a seed from my brothers plant. My BiL (a gardener) said it will never germinate, it's a native of Australia, you can't give it the right conditions. Hahaha easy peasy I grew several and mine is now a big bush.
We call it a Bottle Brush plant here because that is what it looks like.
Thanks for showing us Emma, hope to see many more as the season goes on

I went and found the exact flower after knowing which way to head
http://www.lanerealty.com.au/picWalkingIris.html
it is native to Brasil and Southern Mexico, it makes it sound very special and describes how it re plants itself, the Walking Iris!!

Amazingly, I knew it was an iris straight away. Considering my ignorance of plant life, that's pretty amazing.

Lovely photos Em - thanks for sharing
