Morgan

Morgan is a three-year-old, male Sheltie crossbreed, who came to The Mayhew on a recent rescue-run to Romania. He is an extremely affectionate dog who will roll over for tummy tickles and loves nothing more than nuzzling and snuggling on your lap. He is very obedient, walks very well on his lead and has excellent recall – staying close and preferring to stick by you when off his lead. He loves playing with other dogs once he has asserted his dominance. He also loves cuddly toys and gathering sticks to chew.

Despite his many virtues, Morgan is a snapper – he will lunge at cyclists and will snap at the ankles of strangers he takes a disliking to. This behaviour can be managed fine with a Halti harness which gives the walker full control of his head. Strangers who take the time to say hello to him properly get a perfectly friendly response – even children – and once a bond has been built he is totally trustworthy towards you. He might nip at your legs when overexcited, but a simple ‘ouch’ will remind him of his manners.

Morgan is looking for a new home with an experienced guardian who has owned snappy dogs before and will be assertive and consistent with him from the outset so that he is clear about where he stands and what is expected of him. Because of his snappiness, he cannot be homed to a family with children. He will need to go to training classes and to be given at least one hour of off-lead exercise every day.
