I would personally go for one made out of wood as it is a nonconductive material and is less affected by heat or cold as other materials. They should also be raised off the floor because of rain. So perhaps something more like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/02-LUXURY-...item416f932073

I can't imagine my dogs would ever use one tbh, if they're outside they are usually laying on the sun loungers.

I'm a bit confused - if she sleeps indoors and isn't outside for long what on earth do you want a kennel for? I cannot imagine her going into it for the short periods she is out there.

I keep a moulded one (open front) on my verandah just so my dog can find some shade when temps soar here in Cyprus - she still hardly EVER uses it preferring to lie in the sun with me!

Good point about a wooden one we have a south facing gardren with little shade so wouldn't want her to boil in a plastic one.

For if its raining and she wants to go out in the spring summer and autumn i spend a lot of time outside so she will be outside with me no chance that she will have full range of the house without supervision.
With the children chaging round the garden when it gets warm she might want some where she can go and escape too.
If she has a bone she will eat this outside.

I think it's a great idea to have an outdoor kennel, especially as you say you have kids charging around. It gives her an 'escape'. My neighbour bought a kennel for exactly that reason and her dog loves it. He'd never been in a kennel before.

Good luck and let us know if your are successful.

Never used a kennel with ours but that very much like one a friend of ours bought, it didn't last long as it was far too hot in the summer they have replaced it with a wooden one which their dog loves and doesn't get so hot.

My chickens took over a kennel I put in my garden, then they wouldn't use their house. But my GSD learnt very quickly where to get fresh eggs!
