Basically - you have to get one if taking ur pet to any EU country and it will mean that no quarantine restrictions apply - check out the website for it:

France - Looked at site, thank you, so 1st Microchip 2nd Rabies Vaccination 3rd Blood test(which has to be 6mths before travel) 4th Tick/flea treatment 24/48hrs before travel(to & From) Wonder about the cost - anyone here had it done?

I think it would probably differ at each vets, like normal prices do?

If I've understood it correctly, the tick and flea treatment has to be done 24 -48 hours BEFORE you return to the UK. If it's not, they may not let your dog through. I don't remember Murphy having tick/worm treatment before we came to France but I know he's got to have it to go back.
