Your tips for keeping the doglets cool

Thought it might be an idea to start a thread on some good tips for keeping our doglets cool in this awful hot weather?

My first tip would be
NEVER LEAVE YOUR DOG IN THE CAR IN THIS WEATHER EVEN IN THE SHADE - they could die in 10 minutes

That's got that one over with, so we'll start with the good tips

If you can't use a hose to cool them down, get one of those plastic plant sprayers, fill it with cold water and leave in the fridge. They love having the fine mist of cold water over their faces - well mine do!

Soak a big towel in cold water and lie it on their bed, it makes it a lot cooler for them at night, and it's gonna be 20degrees tonight!

I'm sure we've all got loads of good tips to pass on?

put wet t towels in the freezer once frozen lets dogs have will keep them cooled down and they can chew on the towel at the same time.

flavoured or plain icecubes added in the water bowls keeps water cool make sure to change water cos the water does get warm after a while

Paddling pools make sure they are kept out the sun if your dogs are going in and always supervise never leave dogs or little ones unattended

Keep curtains or blinds shut during the middle of the day to block radiative heat. Keep a fan running over a bowl of water - the evaporation takes heat out of the air.

Definately don't overtax your dogs, and if they are hyper, you may have to restrict their activity.

Try making dog ice-lollies to replace other treats.

Oh, and let them help you water the garden

this is what i do for my dogs

plenty of cold water to drink
no walks until late evening
air con / fans on
cooling bandanas worn all day
frozen yoghurt to help cool them down
ice cubes
swimming pool available for them to use all day
a cold shower before bed to keep them cool during the night
ensure there is plenty of shade supplied in the garden
and i never take my dogs out in a car in the warm weather

Some brilliant tips! Some I didn't know about and will try too.

I always throw a bucket of water over the patio slabs too Pita when the sun has gone over the top of us, as it cools it right down.

I fill 2ltr bottles of water and freeze them,, when frozen I place them in the dogs bed so they can lie against them and they last for a good while, being double coated dogs its a lot to get through,,
